Day trips from Sherkston.

Crystal Beach, the Falls, Safari Niagara and wine country — the best of Niagara, all an easy drive from the cottage.

Sherkston sits right in the heart of Ontario’s Niagara region, so once you’ve had your beach fix, there’s a lot within an easy drive — from a 15-minute village stroll to the Falls, wine country and a proper zoo. Here are the trips our guests love most.

Crystal Beach & Ridgeway — about 15 minutes

The closest change of scenery. Crystal Beach is a lively lakeside village with a pretty shoreline and easy-going beach-town energy, and neighbouring Ridgeway has a walkable main street of shops and cafes plus a well-loved seasonal farmers’ market. A relaxed half-day.

Port Colborne & the Welland Canal — about 15 minutes

Port Colborne’s West Street is one of the prettier waterfront strips in the region — patios, shops and ships. Time it right and you can watch a laker slide through the Welland Canal locks, which never gets old for kids or grown-ups. Nickel Beach is close by if you want more sand.

Niagara Falls & Clifton Hill — about 25–30 minutes

Yes, the Falls really are that close. Spend the morning at the water, then let the kids loose on Clifton Hill — the “street of fun” with the Skywheel, arcades and attractions. Go early to beat the crowds and parking crunch in peak season.

Safari Niagara — about 20–25 minutes

A 150-acre nature park near Fort Erie with more than a thousand animals, splash areas and shaded trails. It’s an easy, genuinely fun full day with kids and a great rainy-forecast backup plan.

Niagara-on-the-Lake & wine country — about 45–60 minutes

Worth the drive for a grown-up day out: historic Niagara-on-the-Lake, the theatre, and dozens of wineries for tastings and lunch. For even more cellars, the Twenty Valley (Vineland and Beamsville) is a little farther, roughly an hour away.

Fort Erie & the border — about 30 minutes

Handy if you’re crossing to or from Buffalo, or fancy a bit of cross-border shopping. Fort Erie also has its own beaches and the historic Old Fort Erie.

Before you go: hours, tickets and seasonal openings change, so check ahead — and feel free to ask us for our current favourites. We’re happy to point you to the right beach, winery or ice-cream stop for your group.
