The golf cart at 116 Quarry Meadows is one of the reasons families rebook year after year. It gets you to the beach, the supermarket and the Saturday-night fireworks without the long walk — with sandy toddlers, coolers and beach toys in tow.
Brand new for 2026. We replaced the old cart with a lifted MadJax with a lithium battery. It rides higher, runs longer, and starts a little differently than most carts — the steps below (and the laminated guide inside the cottage) will get you rolling in a minute.
How to start the cart
The battery goes to sleep after 8 idle hours, so a quick wake-up is often needed on the first drive of the day. Full step-by-step:
- Unplug the charging cable and store it under the seat in the battery compartment. The cart will not turn on while it is plugged in.
- Turn the rotary selector to N (Reverse · Neutral · Drive, left of the key).
- Turn the key on. The MadJax dash monitor should light up.
- No monitor? The battery is asleep. Lift the seat and hold the button on the passenger side of the battery for 2 seconds, then release. It will light up green. Hold it 2 seconds only — 8 seconds shuts the battery off.
- Select D for drive, release the brake pedal and go.
The laminated guide inside the cottage has annotated photos of every step. If you get stuck, that is the fastest reference — and Brie or Alicia are a text away.
Safety & operating rules
Who can drive it
- Drivers must be 18 or older and hold a valid driver’s licence. Learner permits and moped permits are not accepted.
- Maximum 4 passengers, all seated. No standing, no riding on running boards, no more than one person per seat.
- The lessee (the person on the rental contract) must be 25+ per Quarry Meadows policy.
How to park it
- Press the LEFT pedal down to set the parking brake. Firm pressure is enough — you do not need to force it.
- Always apply the steering wheel lock when parking. The key is on the keychain with the golf cart key.
- Plug the cart in every time you park, not just overnight. A lithium pack likes to stay topped up.
- Take speed bumps slowly. Slow is smooth, and lifted carts feel every bump.
The soft-sand rule
Parts of the beach are very soft sand and the cart gets stuck easily. If you get stuck, DO NOT rock the cart between forward and reverse. That destroys the motor and controller and voids your damage deposit. Have passengers step off and push the cart out.
Parking at the side of the beach access — not on the beach itself — is the safer play with a lifted cart.

Common questions
Is the golf cart really included in the rental price?
Yes. Every stay at Quarry Meadows 116 includes the cart, charger and steering wheel lock at no extra fee. It is not a rental add-on or a resort-provided perk — it is our cart, at the cottage door, ready for you.
How is this different from renting a cart from Birdie or a resort provider?
Resort-run cart rentals (like Birdie Golf Carts on-site) run $200 to $300+ for a weekend on top of your accommodation, with limited availability during peak weeks. Ours is included — parked and plugged in when you arrive.
Can my teenager drive it?
No. Drivers must be 18 or older with a valid driver’s licence — that’s the Sherkston resort rule, and it’s ours too. Learner permits and moped permits do not qualify. Kids can absolutely ride, seated, with a licensed adult driving.
Where can I drive it?
Anywhere on the Sherkston resort roads and paths. Do not take it onto Empire Road or off-resort. Beach access is permitted, but soft sand is a real hazard — see the soft-sand rule above.
What if the cart won’t start?
Nine times out of ten, the battery is asleep — run through the startup sequence above (unplug · N · key on · battery button 2 seconds if the monitor is dark). If that doesn’t work, text Brie and we’ll troubleshoot. RCR Golf Carts (905-348-1965) is our service partner.
Do I need to charge it every night?
Better: plug it in whenever you park, not just at night. A lithium pack likes to be topped up. The charger lives at the cottage — there’s nothing to bring.
